Oldies & goodies from the past coming in...

Victorian chic antiques arriving with MUCH MORE beautiful things on Monday. My olde time friend from the 1980's is slowly parting with her treasures and invites me up to see what Just a Bed of Roses customers would LOVE...she can't part with her treasures unless she knows that they will stay adored! I won't disclose her name, she loves her privacy.
She taught me many things about antiques when I had my first shop.Plus we would try to beat each other to a great yard sale...she could always get to and afford the "good stuff" more than I.
All the books which are 100 years old or more she has read, bringing in to the shops about a dozen.
Monday I hope to take pictures of the new set of antique dishes and collectables.

Recreations in Roy is getting the items pictured starting with the black porch chair. And by the way...the Rooster table IS sold (I told ya it would go fast!)I will get in there when the chairs are finished up this week for a final picture.

Let me not forget the ANTIQUE BREAD PAN FLORALS...three more will be planted on Monday...aren't they neat! Smaller ones sold immediatly... so don't hesitate on these. (we have put draining holes in the bottom, thanks to Mr. Roses thinking that it's a must do).

PORCHES...It's that giggle time of year!

Need I say more?
Every porch needs an old bath tub, outdated television, Biggest blue garbage can and lets not be without the black couch!
(I mean this to be all in fun, not to be rude, Mr. Bed of Roses and I sure do get the giggles!)
As we are out yard sale hopping we come across some VERY UNIQUE porches,I scream stop the truck...He turns around, I dig for camera, Mr. rolls down the window... hope you don't mind me sharing once in awhile this summer.

FRENCH soaps & Flower Garden aroma's...

We smell SOOOO BEAUTIFUL ...lemongrass,verbena,lavendar,tea rose, french tulip, & apricot with our new editions of French soaps & lovely milk oat,plus more speckled soap eggs stamped "made in France". Aren't the round soaps packaged romantically for gift giving..."Paris eiffel tower". Now available by popular demand are small bottle of scented oils in Freescia & Gardenia, now that spring...almost summer is here, freshen up your home with scents from the flower garden.

Re-Creations in Roy

So...I took my beautiful fabric choices up to Re-Creations and she was a bit puzzled at my paisley choice...like how is that going to hold up outside? So she sent me to JoAnns fabric and I bought some SALE fabric in floral aqua ,golds and pale pink/red
and a co-ordinating strip for the bottom, only 60.00 Now I can afford my "day off" adventures! Will show pictures when done.

While there I asked if I could take a picture of a few things around Re-creations: the Red/Black Rooster grouping (Krista always makes groupings, good marketer that she is, then you buy the whole thing. It is coming together amazingly, how about I slip in next week when its finished so you can see the co-ordinating chair fabrics and the table with its stained finish, but If I don't get in there REAL SOON, it will be sold and someone enjoying it in their home.

This green/brown grouping is fabulous, do you just love the big bold hydrangea fabric behind those cupboard doors! Well, too late, it's been paid for. But do take some time this summer to stop in frequently and see what's going on, buy yourself something fun to freshen up your home, porch or patio. You won't be dissappointed. She also buys or consigns your unwanted pieces, nice way to pick up some vacation money!
I have to be honest, don't know how they pull all this off, but they do.

My husband has decided that I keep my rent space there during the summer, so we will work at getting it filled up with some fun vintage pieces...as long as I get to have my daughter in law clean the house once a week! yeah! that wasnt a big enough YEAH!

Re-Creations in Roy just North of Walgreens off 5600 S. and 1900 W. you can park behind the store too. 11:00- till they are so tired they drop! (7:00-9:00 p.m)

Alayna and I quickly put this picture together for the North Davis Hometown Values ads coming out in June. I didn't know they were using pictures until the proof came.

1800's Pioneer Dresser...Whitneys

This very old antique oak Dresser is from the 1800's it was owned by the Whitney family and came across the plains, they were from Wales. It was painted over in the 1950's I would guess and antiqued with a nice light green. All handles are original, and the other two are in the drawer. Not broken anywhere. I forgot to check if mirror was original, I will do that Wednesday.
I'm always asked if its hard to sell neat antiques and not keep them...this is a consignment item and I want to tell you that if it doesnt sell this summer it is going into my workroom as I am in love with it! And its history too.
The little wooden pedestals on each side of the mirror is for candlelight, remember, no electricity in those days, arent we spoiled!
Also got some other pieces, I didn't get around to taking pictures of, did get them cleaned and oiled, even priced.
And life and the summer blog books came in, getting mine out of the car right now before 24 comes on tv and scares me to death...what's Jack going to accomplish tonight? How will they save his life?

German glass glitter...selling in Vintage shakers

Over the next few weeks we will be getting German Glass Glitter in several colors and textures...let's be honest, this great stuff is not easy to get our hands on. I was fortunate to have some sharp retailer friends who guided me into "the best" German glass glitter so You and I can do some fun projects this summer.

Our antique shakers are filled with a fine silver glass glitter right now. Aren't they charming? A nice collection of odds and ends shakers is "the thing to do" as far as being Shabby to Chic! On the left is a vintage bedside clear glass water pitcher with a glass on top (they use to do that in the 40' and 50's, it is filled with a pound of fine silver glass glitter with the sweetest antique childs spoon inside and tied with our handmade punk rose tags that says "handle with care".

Today I will be arranging an area with a Primitive, yes, very awesome primitive cupboard, VERY OLD antique high chair, & library side table. I will take pictures today. I will sell them in their primitive original condition.

We could easily get Somerset Life & Blogging books in today, and maybe Romantic Homes.
Hope your Mothers day was as happy as mine. My sister Janine hosted it, her missionary called from Maine and my little granddaughters were boo-hooing because they did not want to leave then my grandson called later to find out when the next party was! That's when you know it was a success! Us Mothers were showered with love and presents, I know many of you were too as we sold some fabulous gifts last week.

Our handmade tags are starting to come back...and with a "new look". She never dissapoints me when it comes to her unique art. I wanted "let them eat cake" for our vintage forks and this is the design she chose, isn't it wonderful! A customer today commented that they would make the cutest wedding shower invites, I agree. I'ts SO Marie Antoinette!

On my way to the shop I had to find my Mother Gaggy Lee's new book...oops, I meant Kathy Lee, my mother loves movie stars & tv stars, always has, always will.
Me...I go right to the business section, then went for Marie Osmonds new book, its really quite funny, I love how she tackles her life with a sense of humor, I mean is there any other way?
Mr. Bed of Roses is happy making a BIG potatoe salad for the family gathering, maybe a Birthday cake for our daughter.
Is it too good to be true... a man that loves to cook?
Me...I think its time to snuggle up with a book and then dream of being showered with presents, how about you?

A new customer came in from Bountiful and arranged a key ring with her childrens initials on it with our new Antique typewriter key charms. What a neat Mothers Day gift! Plus this silver key ring looks fabulous on our silver trimmed purses.

I have passed by BC Chicken hundreds and hundreds of times in Kaysville the past two years...had I known how good their GREEK STYLE meals were I surely wouldn't have just driven by. You MUST stop in for lunch, dinner or take-out and it fits everyones budgets, and it's for sure addicting!

Where women create...Perspective

Jayna and I have always read our magazines from the back to the front,do you? We noticed that today, funny thing isn't it? So this evening I finally got to the END...page 2 & 3, there Jo packam did her Kitchen table article on Perspectives. You must read.

She talks how difficult it sometimes can be to be an artist and have so much creativity inside of you. Some moments ( or most) you are exploding with it and other times you would just like to wake up and not have it.Sometimes we hurry and get the necessary things done to have the rest for our necessary creativity She was candid, down to earth and honest about private self. You'll find yourself relating.

Another thing inside I found was a quote from the FAMOUS Leonardo da Vinci, page 95:

Life is pretty simple, you do some STUFF, most FAIL, some WORKS, you do more of WHAT WORKS, IF it works BIG, others quickly COPY IT, then you do SOMETHING ELSE, the TRICK is the DOING SOMETHING ELSE.

When these books arrived I quickly scanned and had to peek all day long as they were the most beautiful pages I have ever seen!

I called the company and said "I don't know how Jo Packam will be able to out do herself on this book as it is beyond spectacular and send me 18 more copies...fast!"
Marie Osmond on front cover with her sewing & doll studio is wonderful, especially if you love marie, her dolls and sewing.

Candy Moger, a new artist to me stole my heart as we seem to love the same colors and designs, don't you agree, I mean the pink/black and dots and florals...love them you will too!
Her motto: Be true to yourself. Follow your OWN path, not the path another made.

Amy Hanna, first picture, isnt that page scrumptious! Her motto: in life is that there always has to be a pearl in an oyster. Her first book: rejuvenated jewels. Which reminds me that although we have tons of jewelry in the shop that's everchanging, I must make appt. with my two vintage jewelry suppliers so we have plenty for your summer projects!

And I love Elizabeth Clah, a Navajo weaver and the program thats Adopt a native elder program, learn more about that in the book, its wonderful.
And for you who love bright colors...there are many pages to drool over!
What I loved was pages 45-80 to be honest, I want to just crawl inside of those pages and live there! Beyond your imaginations.

So here I present to you just a "sneak peek" because I can't let you see these pages before I do...lol! And that's exactly what I am going to do, right now.

Preparing for Mothers Day & Christmas? What's up with that?

We are preparing for Mothers Day & Christmas (that's what shop owners do)... Jayna will bring her new pieces of jewelry by Friday afternoon and I can hardly wait to see the backsides of them...wonder what saying is on the "walking shoes" picture? Maybe something like: "she walked out the front door and just kept walking!" lol!

Since its A SNOW DAY TODAY I will tell you an important event to mark your calendars for in November. Is it ever to early for you to start preparing for Christmas? Yes, it is and if the sun was shining today you would throw rocks!

Spring ideas...AGAIN!

I STILL WANT these shudders...last year I wanted them too!
These were on a new home recently being built...so I snapped the picture, showed Mr. Bed of Roses last night, we took measurements...so lets see if it will happen this year. (I think he was excited, wink wink!).
Now, are they knotty alder or a real knotty pine? Anyone know? And where do you buy the knotty alder? Wouldnt the knotty alder hold up better? I am clueless. Any help would be appreciated.

24...the tv show

Do you watch 24? Could you believe lasts nights show at the ending? I had always suspected the head of the FBI being the terrorist...not You know who! Shocked?
Jack will have a miracle happen, I heard he signed on for another year...so he just has to live...doesn't he? Have you ever seen him eat of sleep?

The Saturated persons design...from Human Art:

Saturated person's natural description...Chrome & glass, clean lines, high fashion, orchids, stained glass windows, sharp definition, Geisha.I always think oriental.
Color wise they like the pure primary colors. Tend to be introverted. Focusing on what they are thinking, rarely expressing themselves freely.
Good at concentration, prefer individual sports, needs personal space, comfort, cleanliness and order.
Confusion and noise make you uncomfortable.
