antique LOVEBIRDS Birthday present

Husband and I took a little "get away" for our birthdays, our favorite thing to do is visit antique shops and malls and eat lots of good food. I found this sweetest musical german antique caliope at Treasures in Springville, Utah. I glanced at the precious little cherubs and then the windmill caught my eye as our last name is Dutch, adoringly picked it up to admire and when I saw the 2 little silver love birds at the top I made claim to my husband...this is what I want for my birthday! He smiled (and thought " how easy" ) all I could find for him was an cute old box of staws...
Lets face it, to be married 34 years and be happy in love, what could be better!

MORMON TABERNACLE CHOIR Visit if in Salt Lake City

Have you heard of the famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir from Salt Lake City, and the Spoken Word program done every Sunday morning since I think 75 years ago? It is televised. Husband and I love to go there whenever possible and feel the peaceful spirit the choir brings to the audience as they perform so Grandly. My dream is to travel with them on their next tour...wouldnt that be a chance of a lifetime! I literally tear up the minute I walk into the tabernacle and see and hear them, the spirit is very strong in that sacred building. Last week I couldn't hold back the tears as they sang my favorite song "You'll Never Walk Alone", I dont know why that song makes me cry, especially when they sing it.

If you are coming to Salt Lake city, email me and I will tell you some fabulous places you must indulge in to eat. We had brunch at the famous Little America , I thought I had died and gone to heaven, then the next day I had to go buy bigger clothes! Yes, it was that good!

Daughters FIRST ART SHOW I'm a proud mom!

Here is the Poster outside of the Salt Lake City's Wells Fargo Building announcing my beautiful daughters very first art show. It was so special to walk into the Panache restaurant and see her art work displayed so perfectly in this upscale place where people appreciate good art. It will be on display downtown all month, if your intown I invite you to enjoy her work. I did have a big dissapointment, my camera battery died on me after only 3 pictures...of all times!

YOU CANT DO BUSINESS FROM AN EMPTY WAGON

This morning before venturing out to the yard sales, I was seriously thinking about ALL my MANY PILES I deal with every single day of my life!

Then off the wall at our first estate sale my dear on the ball hubbie found this old picture of a wooden horse drawn wagon and it stated: You Can't do business from an empty wagon! He was insistant on buying this (only 2 bucks), and it made me think of my MANY PILES again and gave me purpose to keep on going, of course!

I THOUGHT I was a decorator, antique collector, shop owner, internet business owner, designer, etc etc. HOWEVER I have realized I am really a 'PROFESSIONAL PILE MAKER." I am very good at it too...

Every day I make piles, sort through piles, collect piles, throw out piles, give away piles, wade through big piles, get irritated at many piles and irritate others with them, many times I LOVE MY PILES! Its a good thing as this seems to be my calling in life!

So this little antique sign gave me a new MOTTO, now I am off to pull the piles from the car and truck just freshly collected and sort through into PILES once again...now this one goes to the shop, this one goes to ebay, this one goes to a boutique, this one is trash...and MY LIFE IS VERY FILLED UP!

Think about your many piles...

EPAMINONDAS Grandma Johnson always told us this story!

During a little summer "antique" shopping trip a few weeks ago as I was leaving an antique mall my eyes glanced at this little red book called "EPAMINONDOS AND HIS AUNTIE. Well, my grandsons will testify that I let out a scream and I was jumping up and down (to the best of my ability) and I told my husband that nothing could stop me from buying this book! (was no small price tag either).

Growing up my girl cousins and I would stay at grandma Johnsons in the summertime she always told us this story and did the motions and made it sound so funny. Grandma had been a first grade teacher and it was one of her favorite books. The first born cousin received her copy.

Epaminondos is a little black boy who drags bread with a rope, puts butter on his head and of course it melts and he dips the dog in the water till it almost drowns...auntie keeps trying to teach him the right way to do things...However her favorite saying to him is " EPAMINONDOS YOU AINT GOT THE SENSE YOU WERE BORN WITH" oh how we would giggle when we heard that!

As my children were growing up sometimes when they or someone else did something really quite STUPID I would call them EPAMINONDOS.

See you never know what memories a little shopping trip to an antique store is going to stir you!
