Here's some shabby white!

An estate dress form...this is cloth and I hand painted it with thick white house paint! This form is adjustable so it sits shorter than shown and tall as about the average ones of 4 ft or so. It is for sale: 85.00 without the antique collar, that is an extra 28.00 It will be in the shop Friday morning. If anyone is interested and for sure wants it email me at: justabedofroses@hotmail.com Looks like the morning sun was just a little too bright for details, I can retry later on.

Here is the naked version of the estate dress form. And some WHITES that will be coming in. Now use your imagination with the broom gals...you know halloween is coming up! What does a shabby witch use????? A white broom of course. These also will be coming in Friday.

I will do my house project post tomorrow when I get some better pictures...I must say I am getting tired and I forgot today was my husbands birthday, he did remind me as he left for work after hanging some shudders. I seriously thought it was tomorrow.

I think we need new outdoor light fixtures...you would agree if you saw ours now after putting these beautiful shudders up. One things always leads to another when changing things, doesnt it? That would make a really nice b-day present for the both of us, we are two days apart.

Shudders...and a beautiful day to stain

The pumpkins got their stain...

Husband is stressing the shutters and even they got their fresh coat of stain...

And Little white puppy hanging out in the country...he better not have got any stain on him, isnt he precious falling asleep on my foot while I was staining?

We thought we had all the shudders stained...what a suprise when mr. bed of roses found a whole stack of them behind him...(44 boards plus braces in all) Can you hear me scream? I was glad to have run out of the stain, they can wait until next week. Next the shudders need 3 coats of sealer, both sides...when is this going to end?

It better be "as good as Christmas" when they get hung!

We have some fun fall jewelry in the shop and I will take a picture of some awesome big silver heart crown earrings...you will love!

Backyard camping & Patience

Being at the shop today I missed studio 5 at 11:00 a.m. so alisa Bangerter reminded me that all you do is go to ksl.com and click on studio 5.I just type in her name and it pulls up her last segment...(and the others) I did just that...and viewed her segment on Backyard camping she did today, she makes it sound so fun ALMOST wished my kids were still at home.

Then I typed a man I love and adore and its Matt Townsend a relationship coach, just typed in his name and his chat was about PATIENCE...love his sense of humor as he talks about how to live life more productivly. Nothing phoney, just tells it like it is. Remember he has a super busy life and 6 children and I cant imagine the relationship problems HE has to hear all day. good thing he knows how to help people solve them. He's the best!

Hope you have a chance to watch studio 5 when you are home, if not just type it in.

Today while the shutters were being cut...

While the shutters were being cut today this paris tapestry in an antique frame was being embellished with a vintage cameo & rhinestone piece, little black diamonds and I may be right or wrong, but I believe the lace is vintage tatting.Lovely piece will be coming to the shop on Wednesday!

And more Jewelry wearing straw hats & colored antique bottles to pick from...

The case of the UGLY SHUTTERS...

I'm speaking of MY ugly shutters...wont you agree?

Back in the day when I stayed home alot...lots of laughs, and wasn't running a 24/7 business, I would HAND PAINT these plastic louvered shutters...they started darker green, then light green, then rusty, and then dark brown, all in a matter of 13 year! Was I nuts? I am a "always change my mind" kind of gal though. I KNOW alot of you are too.

I have been asking for the knotty alder shutters for a min. of 5 years now...not sure why Mr. Bed of Roses decided now was the time (maybe my persistance or I never quit talking about it or there were so many hornets behind these old ones or these plastics were just ugly!). But NOW is the time, yeah!

Now we think we have it figured out, the wood was bought today and all pieces of shutters have been cut...we have quite a few windows to dress up, not any easy task.
Hopefully the stain we are about to undertake right now is the right one, keeping fingers crossed, and then the lumber company insists on 3 coats of a sealer, sides and back too, darn!

Next week when hung...I will be happy to share the results. We are actually having a garage make-over this month, thats the plan anyway Will be glad to share the "how to" when we think we have it figured out.

What have you done to the outside of your home this year to get a new refreshing updated look? There is a ton more I would love to do, maybe I will sneak in some new outdoor light fixtures...hmmm! One thing 'ALWAYS' leads to another, doesnt it?

I will show you Mary Janes (out here in the country) front of her home make-over, she used some navy blue...pretty cool when its finished. I should show you her kitchen and front room make-over too.

what a pleasure...

What a pleasure to have Alisa Bangerter visit the shop today...I knew whom she was right after her mother walked in, as her mother has told me for some time now that Alisa was going to come in one day.

She is as delightful & cute in person as she is on tv. Do you watch her on Studio 5, she has the funnest segments...parties and gathering, and if you know at all about her she doesn't do just an average party. Her creativity shines. The days I am home, I always stop what I am doing and watch studio 5 at 11:00 a.m. Alisa says the days you can't watch then go to ksl.com and click on studio 5, or just type her name in search and it will take you to all her segments and they have more detail than her 8 mins. on the show.
That sounds like a helpful thing doesnt it, I mean, how many times do you want to do something fun and don't know what to do...well, let alisa take care of that for you and it will be a hit of a party.
So...one of our customers insisted on an autograph, then I couldnt let her outdo me, so I had to ask too. I had her do it on Jo Packams page in the new Where women create. It was her editors page where she talks about friends and how important they are to us. And...I hope alisa one day gets into this book...after all, she is a creator...alot in her kitchen possibly?
Do you want some inside scoop on what Alisa and her cutest daughter was attracted to? Lets say they are the proud owners of Jayna's altered art neclaces and each had to have a big purse!

Here my granddaughter Chloe posing at Rainbow Gardens in the mouth of Ogden Canyon, we snuck a quick get away up there to see what was happening...I always love window displays and with a cute granddaughter included had to be the best part.

Chloe, although a bit bashful wanted more pictures...kids now days are really use to lots of "say cheeses" arent they?

If I were standing next to Olivia Newton John I would for sure look as happy as my daughter is...Olivia and Her husband "Amazon John" has a company that is into nutrition and a whole LOT of Humitarian work.

Grease was Shellies all time favorite movie...my kids were always watching that video, was that the mid 1980's? So this is really a special experience for her to have a photo together. So... did you have a favorite song from the movie Grease?

FALLS & getting elderly...OOPS, OUCH, DANG IT!

We all know someone close to us who have fallen, hurt themselves, some more severe than others, its really quite common isnt it?
A month ago Merlyns (who works tues/thursdays) father fell in the nighttime unexpectedly and hurt himself, nothing broken, thank goodness, non the less truamatic and painful(something tore) for him and their family.

Saturday evening I was anxious to call my mother as she was returning from her class reunion she is 78, and looks forward to this every 5 years, actually she gets alot of anxiety about it, but always goes (we think to see her old boyfriend!!!) My dad thinks that to!
So about 9:45 we have a nice telephone visit about the reunion and she says well I am going to have a bath and go to bed, hope I can sleep.

Next day my sister calls me on her way home from Nauvoo and she proceeds to tell me that mother was drying herself off and fell backward into the tub full of water and hit her head. She is yelling for my father for help...well, he has needed a hearing aid for MANY MANY years and too stubborn to get one. Finally he shows up and without going into details he takes her to the hospital where she has the cut on the back of her head stapled up.

My mother has high "hate dr. office and hospital anxieties" and her blood pressure was at stroke stage and the dr. did not want to release her...however she told him there is no way it would go down if she stayed there. So she went home. Oh mother. I am thinking. But so her.

She tells me the story and says she thought for sure she was going to die right there in the bathtub. She watches alot of tv and has seen alot of head bumps/death results lately. So she thought that this was it and she just couldnt believe that is how she would die.

She seems to be doing well, taking it very slow and easy in the comforts of their home. While my sister today takes my dad to the dr. to see if he has a hernia, as on their first cabin trip this season he fell and did the splits as he slipped on the rug going out the door carrying the cooler. Oh no!

Does this sound familiar to those of you whom are 50 and over with elderly parents?
New worries for us for sure...grandchildren & elderly parents, oh, lets slip in our children! And while we are at it...ourselves!

P.S...the picture shown is an antique metal dr.s cabinet on wheels...did you know we have one in the shop for sale? It's awesome shabby white and probably from an old Utah hospital from the early 1900's.

Sock monkey n around ...the shop

We have sock monkey toys now...monkey sleeping bags, suitcases, coin purses, and purses, wrist rattles, baby hats, and a multitude of colors and sizes of sock monkeys.

Speaking of monkey n around...we certainly did that with our grandchildren! The cute little monkeys! Even got to play with the new Cloe puppy...chiawauwa??? Will I ever get that right.

Shellie got to Monkey around with Olivia Newton John over the week-end...for real!

Hopefully we will have a picture to share soon. Her favorite show growing up...Grease!

Speaking of sock monkey n around, I have a friend CJ who owns an antique shop with that very name, you will find it next to Piccalo Pizza just south of 12th street on the west side in Ogden. We have a new flier at the shop with some Ogden shops and more. And the new country registar arrived.
