100's of hankies. hankys. handkerchiefs. whatever
While we still iron away at the 100's of hankies...newly acquired from a collector,
let me show you this one...a souvenier of France, in celebration of WW1 ending. Isn't it beautiful!
If you'll click on this:www.thedutchrose.blogspot.com you will find that susan, an English Professor in New Jersey and also an antique/vintage shop owner did some fun research on the history of hankies. hanky's. handkerchief's...whatever!
Apparently they had their beginnings in the year 1377...men had them. So check Susan's blog for some interesting facts, also found on our bloglist.

Then... the kleenex marketing basically said "move over hankies, your full of germs" era began in the 50's. So let me ask...what are your memories of
hankies. handerchief's. hankys?
I'll tell you mine on another day...we have furniture to refinish for the opening of Once upon a time Christmas Nov. 15th and a shed we are picking from.
(alot of that shed stuff will be for spring selling).
Wishing it was WARM or even hot.

Airplane staring down my driveway...sunday morning.
I'm standing in my driveway Sunday morning...and this is what is looking at me...a small airplane in the field across the street. Now the night before, we came home in the dark from the Antique show and heard there was an airplane in the field and all was well. Of course it brought the crowds and the emergency vehicles, which we mostly missed. Remember it was dark and we were exhausted...so we didn't think that much more about it...
It took me off guard when I saw it FACING MY DRIVEWAY head on...geeeeezzzzzzzz! What if...and I don't even want to go there. Because I know lightning strikes homes, like it did Joni's in August...and I know airplanes hit homes. We just don't want it to be ours, do we.It's just too much trouble.
I was really thankful for that onion field across the street. The airplane had engine failure and was heading south to the Hinckley airport in roy...when he spotted the just harvested field. Glad no one was hurt.
On the bright side...here is my "new find" from the Acorn antique show...this came from a sweet charming vendor from Minnesota. Her shop name is Minnie Van Winkles... and she told me the story of how full her vehicle was one day out hunting...and said I cannot fit another thing in it...when she found this beauty. And you know how it goes from there...we tell the passenger to call a cab or get real skinny because these things are squeezing in, right!
I'm so glad she did!
She kept calling it a she...so I said well, did you name her?
She said no, but you could call her Minnie, from Minnesota, and her last name the shop name Van Winkle, (and besides I love disneyland, minnie mouse).
So...her name is: Minnie Van Winkle...how easy was that!
And I love her.
Here you can see it has original labels and I just love that it's got such nice golden patina and it's all original. Antique shows just have the best feelings inside of them. Nostalgia, childhood memories, grandparent remembrances and we want to buy it to have it around us. It makes us feel good. It connects us to our past. And there is QUALITY...which is so missing in todays products, so very sad.
My goodness we heard the BEST stories. So many of you shared such neat reasons why you were buying certain pieces. One of my favorites is when a man came in and saw our red and blue scooter...and he was just in high heaven, couldn't get his money out fast enough, he talked on and on about how he use to ride one just like it.
There was a new booth there, think it was something like "the little red wagon" from reno. They had the sweetest stuff, they collect and sell childhood toys, books, anything children related from the past. What a joy to walk into their space. They had such a love for their offerings. Hopefully they will be back to the next show Feb. 15-16th.

Crazy quilt made from ties...day 2 of Acorn
Gee...it was so much fun Saturday seeing so many customers of just a bed of roses come to the Acorn antique/vintage holiday show. I hope you had as much fun as we did. The last hour of the day finally we caught our breath, ate a corn dog on the run and I sat down briefly, but was afraid I may not be able to get back up! Mr. Roses, well, he too had alot of fun. He just may enjoy his retirement. Remember I get twice the man now and 1/2 the income!
It was a very well attended show...and Heidi Wilcox the show producer is a hard worker and has a husband and family of boys that are exceptional in all working together. Acorn was started by her Mother Georgia who has since passed on. Georgia would be happy. And Heidi brings the most amazing metal. rusty, wooden things, they just fly right out the door.
We love to collect and sell!
We love to see who will buy the items that we collect.
sometimes we know ahead of time who will buy what...
and then we get suprised with our new customers and learn what they love...thus our addiction to search out "more" antique vintage items pushes us out the door to collect more!
we also love to see what YOU have found that the other vendors have offered. They too are dedicated to finding just the right stuff. And we Love YOU new customers, hope to see you again. If you'll keep checking this blog you'll find out what we are up to next.
I took my camera...but didn't take even one minute to take photo's. I did find a beauty to bring home, she has a name.
I will post monday.
Today, the acorn antique show will be a bit slower, the booths are about 1/2 the amount in them, so there is a more relaxed atmosphere. Vendors will bring in some more odds and ends...you MAY find that prices will be lowered a bit more as the day goes on...since it could be raining and no one wants to haul their stuff back home.
(now this is my opinion, not fact, okay).
See you soon...and remember the shop is closed until Nov. 15 when we re-open for Christmas. Then we will be open everyday new hours: 10-6 closed sundays. We want this to be a neat ending to our 7 years there.
crazy quilt made from old ties is still available. 135.00

An antique. vintage. Industrial style show NOT TO MISS!
Today we set up 10 hours...at the weber county fairgrounds
for the amazing one of a kind and biggest antique show in the state of Utah...I took a quick run around before leaving...and I saw magnificent furniture almost breath taking. What I know you as our customers would love is so many pieces of Industrial, pieces to organize with, decorate with, rustic, holiday, galvanized. These dealers come in from other states
to sell their stuff they have collected through the years and this past summer.
I am finally offering 3 antique quilts..it breaks my heart to do so...they are of the finest quality...and the pricing is for your benefit...as quilt prices are really low right now, so they could make a great investment.
selling my collections too...this one noahs ark from wolfcreek.
selling a beautiful big gray scale toledo brand...its wonderful.
Also this door and a large window same style which has to be
close to 5'x 5' also a very primitive old red paint tool chest with lid and drawers. I am sharing my space with Heidi the show producer...and she has just the best industrial and rustic woods, you will want to pay special attention.
She has a nice collection of glass door knobs too.
Outside Heidi has alot of her primitives and industrials...
grab us for a sold tag, if you can't find her.
You'll find plenty to decorate for your thanksgiving holiday.
Another thing we are parting with...this is a gigantic coat
rack...from an old school or church. Someone will be very lucky to own this piece, you'll find it just as you go inside the door to the left.
Here are the legs to the antique coat rack.
All of our antique mercury glass garlands have been measured and bagged up...so glad Mr. roses is still recovering
and can sit and do odds and ends projects for selling for me.
You will love this nice selection of garlands. I also have 2 sizes of the reproductions in antique silver, you'll adore.
Loaded up is a very large antique mailbox fastened to an old
farm produce scale...this will be in the entree of the show too.
remember the shop in farmington is closed right now while it gets prepared for Christmas.
we re-open...Nove 15 and will be there everyday through christmas...and after.
You'll find our event sign in the window...I just love it!
Hope you do too.
see you at the antique show...this weekend.
don't forget to turn your clocks back sunday!
