Jot em Down MONDAY...SCAVENGER HUNT

Come find what's arrived Monday,
our first Monday opening thru Christmas!

Here is what jot 'em down means:

Jot 'em down was the type of stores
you would gather especially on Saturdays
 to find
what you needed to fix this or that.

Betty Whitlock stepped up to our challenge
of finding old photo's for our fall season.
I had never heard this store name
have you?

This monday is focused on
containers
vintage,of course
for organizing your collections.
Suitcases to
many metal tool totes
(not shown)

Like this antique oak box

Plastic cigar boxes filled with
little collectable
waiting for you to create with.

This piece would be Industrial style
hang it up to hang jewlery etc from.

Antique fur hangers
you could hang your ribbon spools etc.

This lacey lamp shade I have made into
a display piece or better yet, put it on your
head and be a tea party girl!
(as this tea  cup and saucer are glued on)
All pearls are for purchasing.

4- 50's/60's polyester dresses are coming in
on Monday
with vintage accessories.
There will be at least 50 pieces of
vintage clothing/coats coming
in the next few weeks
including bowling shirts and ball.

start thinking COSTUMES.

Oneida silver cups, fall dessert tray,
7 pieces of milk glass.

Vintage painted white covers
for your home

Lots and lots of zippers in many colors
with brass zips .
again...think halloween costume,
think hard!

Crisp clothesline clothespin hanger dress
(its green not aqua as its showing)
great organizing piece.
We have tons of buttons, 100 new pieces
of silverware at 2.00 each, keys 1.00

Black and white kitchen necessities
would go great with all the reds and green
kitchen tools in the shop.

Also this beautiful East Lake piece
would be wonderful above your door
or turn it into a hanger.

To start off our Scavenger Hunt Monday...
ALL ITEMS OUT FRONT OF THE SHOP
30% OFF
MONDAY ONLY
it may be a rainy day monday
and I will add to what is already outside
if possible.
The back room sales table will be added to

working on...
All hallows eve in the Historic Sycamores
looking for more
old farmington photo's
although we have some great ones.

Don't you find it hard to come inside
at night with this beautiful perfect weather?
Tonight
my 10 year old grandson and I
decided to ride our bikes around the country block.
We got  1/3 the way around
and we both had flat tires.
(for some reason I thought we had
puncture proof tubes, duh).

Ended up walking bikes
and getting mosquito bites
so...
we gave ourselves two smiley face
stickers on the calendar,
well earned!

At the shop...
the back room now is for marked down items,
 good deals.
This area will be added to daily.

The 3/4 off leftovers went to a yard sale
in syracuse for Saturday.
address: 2602 S. 575 W.

tapping off ...
see you soon

(photo's from pinterest because I haven't
had the time to download the camera)
thank you pinterest!

vintage disney

Quick trip,
actually....
spur of the moment
day at Anaheim's Disneyland.

It's been 25 years since I have been there
with my husband's family
and our 4 children.

which reminds me...
I discovered a box of old disney toys
out in the garage
last week,
it reminds me to get them
ready to bring in...
NEXT WEEK
for Scavenger Hunt MONDAYS
this month...okay!

Disney in California
seems very vintage, even small,
compared to
Disneyworld Orlando.
I experienced it sitting in a wheelchair this time,
all because I have a nice dr. son in law.
THAT ALONE was a new adventure...
(saved my planter fasciatis foot
from flaring up)
this time
 adults
no children
except a 14 year old
easy
fun
yeah, adult rides
no counting little faces
all day long,
Mickey mouse head
shaped ice cream dipped in chocolate.
perfect for a hot day.

love this saying, don't you!

turn head sideways!

Back to work...
the new season is popping up
all over the shop
for our
"All hallows eve
in the historic Sycamores"
we want you to feel you have
stepped back into the early
years of Farmington,
and remember the times
of dirt roads, horse and buggies,
 spooky dark nights
with no street lamps.
I'm scared!

This season you'll find
old photo's
many from Farmington in it's beginnings.
(keep checking the blog)
better yet...
come on in
and if you have an old photo
of Farmington...
we would love to have a copy!
see you

Tufted chair...

A top the organizing chest
in the new workspace...
Vintage scrabble board in aqua/pink,
vintage collar on dress form wearing pearls,
crystal, very old pink childs table
and the newest addition:
aqua/pink tufted chair.

I bought this to bring into the shop
for the Fall season...
but after 2 seconds thinking about it...
it has to stay here...
at least for now.
Can you blame me?

You can have your name put on the bottom
for when I find a replacement,
that's a cool idea!
Cause I know there could be a dozen of you
who really want this pretty chair.

There will be another load of vintage/antique
collectables coming in this week,
this will be among them.
Does this help?
RS Prussia pieces
especially
beautiful for fall.

I'll chose a nice antique... anytime

On a recent estate buying trip
we discovered this antique dresser.

The former owner was Ned Favero, who
was owner of the White House weddings in
Ogden many years ago.
Remember?

His estate was in the mountains
in an old victorian home.
Located on a piece of property
with big trees, porches and sheds.
(the home is for sale)
The home decor was in velvet rose furniture
along with nice antiques.

I was talking to Margaret Favero
about how my husbands sister use to clean
their reception center.

As we were talking she saw that Carl was
taking the mirror off the dresser for
transportation and she said are you
buying this dresser?
I said yes, it's going in our home,
it's our birthdays and we really love it.
She put her hands in her face and cried.
I hugged and consoled her
by saying it was going to a good home.
She then told how it was
Giovanni Favero's, Neds parents dresser,
Ned was the youngest of 17 children.
I was so glad that she was there
to tell us the story
or
we would not have known.
This story would not have
been passed with this dresser.

It's oak and from the early 1900's

This is our job...
buying estates and bringing the possessions
to our customers.

This has been a big part of our marriage
of 39 years.

It's never easy

It's just how life works.

There are feeling at estates that is different,
reverent,
 respectful.
a little spiritual even.
I think everyone there feels it.

By the time estates are ready for selling,
the contents have been divided among family/relatives/friends.

So we find new life/ownership
for what is left.

And it's fun to see
who gets to be the new
caretakers.
That is what we LOVE
and have always loved
 about
our business.

This is a piece I bought for my new workspace
at the same estate.

It's placed between two windows
and is about 9' up the wall.
After we had paid and loaded up our
finds, this piece kept calling to me.
For an hour I had ignored it
and then I just got my money out and
said this pretty thing is going home with me!
60's ornate gold piece with crystals.
It ties in perfectly with
what is displayed underneath it.

Here is the mirror from a high boy dresser
also from a recent estate.

I love it
especially right above the antique door
that leads into the workroom.
Isn't it pretty on the pink wall!
It too is about 9' up

Can you see why I prefer antiques
over vintage and retro
ANYTIME!

We must chose our style and then
go with it!

Here is another estate piece
I've been hanging on to
for just the right place
and today was the...
"right place" day!

It's a chippy paint
giant iron scroll
and I love how it adds design to the space
without detracting,
keeping it light and airy
up high.
Things such as this I have to hide from
my daughter before she
claims it!

As we were just talking...
we are their caretakers for awhile
and then someone else gets to do that when
we are finished.

Unique way to show a piece of art...
this is my daughters roses watercolor
it's standing in a waste basket
from the Hotel Ben Lomond
It has alot of patina,
a piece of history,
recently bought from a collector.

Friday we will photo beds that
we have for selling.
There is a nice cast iron one at the
shop right now, it's a double size.

see you...
thursday.
friday.
saturday.
11:00-5:30
