We can help if your suffering from "gardenitis" at the vintage whites market
Preparing for Vintage white market...weathered patina vintage projects (just a few). Bedsprings have been cut in half, now TWO people can enjoy owning them!
Clamps...oh my, my husband is an overachiever when I say something needs glued...out come the gigantic clamps for just the littlest piece to be fixed! Three wheel cart oozes with patina, all original colors.
Are you amazed at the trellis with real vines...I mean, how could we cut them out, it would be just wrong!
If you have vintage "garden-itis"...we can cure that when you shop our Pic-patina booth at Vintage whites March 8th. Promise there is SO MUCH MORE...just don't want to spoil it by showing too much.

Please take your SEAT
Pic your SEATing...
Did you go to Clearfield High?
These seats were in the auditorium from the beginning.
Not sure when they were removed.
Speaking of removed...they were from back in the day when you could chew bubblegum and stick it under the seats...uh huh...Carl removed loads of old hardened bubblegum, layers of dust and grime, shined them up with beeswax and orange oil and now they look like THIS! ( I always wish I had taken before photo's, but he's just so quick to fix things up).
The first two photo's are the same seats of 5 in a row, one on the end written in white original paint says "usher". The next two photo's are another grouping of 4 seats. NOW...these seats come apart, I think in groups of two or they ALL connect into one large row.
The last two photo's are the backs, nice metal hardware, seats fold up and they are sturdy. No breakage, nice patina and a little chippy on a few.
We have another grouping of 5 which have not been refinished up quite yet.
I just really want to take them to the vintage whites event, but if someone just had to have a grouping you can contact us @ justabedofroses@hotmail.com
we are working a pricing...
for now the group of 4 are 250.00 and the group of 5 are 300.00
What a treasure...we have been going to buy these from a guy for 2 years and finally did it (as you see we are enjoying our retirement time, if you like all work and no play!)
Will be sharing an antique dental cabinet next up for sale, all original, it's just beyond charming. So please check back.
(I'll also get some measurements on these chairs).
The shop here at home is NOT opened this weekend.

pic PATINA STYLE...is there anything else???
Patina...that's what you'll find and you'll want to pick@ our
Pic-Patina space Vintage whites Market March 8th 10:00 grand ball room Utah state fairgrounds.
I'm going to be very guarded about our patina style space...it's time worn, re-purposed, re-painted, beautiful items you'll want to enjoy in your life---with a past.
You know our style and we know yours...and that's why we are so excited for this event to get here quickly (well, no, we need some warmer weather to finish up some of our projects).
I'll post a peek (not going overboard because we want it to be a complete suprise) by the end of this week.

I know there will be a tea party going on and a class taught on lighted signs
so plan on spending the day. There will be a moving company there to help you to your truck
with your PATINA FINDS. Bring a husband if you really want to load up. As soon as I know where
our booth is, it will be announced here.

an UNEXPECTED DAY in utah county
Fleaology...creative sign outside of Olsons Greenhouse in Payson.
30 vendors tucked in various places inside this sunny, warm building full of live greenry. You could almost hear the birds singing like a spring day. Pretty unique. lots of variety.
Perfect setting for a January flea market!
What we found... we LOVE!
BRAMBLES and blossoms shop in Provo...cute Lisa who loves to collect Industrial, Naturalistic, Patina, Rust, Farmhouse etc. Old chippy wood pieces displays each room in such a naturalistic way you just want to stay for a long while to soak it all in. It's different. Refreshing to find uniqueness in a shop now days isn't it?
Lisa adds dried lavendar flowers and real greenry for that "feel alive" look that you want to take home with you. Nothing fake, fluffy & pink for this gal, she is fun, energetic, real, a good hard working gal who loves to get her hands dirty and so cute...dang, why didn't I get her photo at her neat counter? Lisa do you do PINK? (bet she does in spring & summer). She is passionate and dedicated about her business.
Outside you can't miss this aqua patina truck...so fitting for Pulling you in off the road. She has been in this location for 10 years.I met her only a year ago and loved her energy and now I know her style...it's kind of the new term RAW.
Inside displays of white chippy patina await you... January is never any shopkeepers grandest...it's when Christmas has been put away and it's time to prepare for the seasons ahead. (and it's alot of work).
Lisa wants us to come back when she is at her capacity...but we loved the bones of her displays...and you can see her old wooden floors which we fell in love with. You will too. (be sure to look down). My mind wandered a bit to think about sweet spring tucked into the vignettes. ahhh Spring! (I think Christmas would be fantastic there too).
4 rooms and then a big room to dig around in...stuff waiting to make their grande arrival onto the display floors...but, they could make their way to your home first...You will not be disappointed in what you find! This girl can collect neat stuff!
see I told you...
good junk heaven!
Love is in the air there...and she has some of the best scents.
Address: 959 s. state Provo this road is between Provo and on the way into Springville on the East side of the road. Look for her rustic and inviting porch. will check her days and hours schedules.
801-375-2012
We also visited Treasures antique mall West of Springville.
Lisa suggested this place...could she hear our tummies? Can I say that I would be there every week if it were only closer, I have never eaten at a place that has such flavor, everything is organic, grass fed etc etc etc... SO REFRESHING. Not like usual mexican food smothered in beans, sauces and cheese. Located in Orem, just south of the University mall, south side of the Wendys on the west. don't blink you'll miss...serious. you've been warned!
It's small/quaint/best service and the tables are little square wooden ones. We also had fresh pineapple juice in mason jars. We even talked about throwing out all of our glasses and using mason jars at home. Not that it's a new idea at all, but we have time on our side now and jars that didn't get used this year! (loving our new life, yes, REALLY!)
The Granny smith apple cheese salad...whoa, I did not expect this presentation, the dressing was lemon, lime & sea salt.YOU MUST TRY! Does anyone know how to cut up apples this thin, tiny strips, would love to know. (cause we have extra time, right!)
Just helping you decide (and lisa has her favorites too of avocado taco, Plantano...dont forget!)... this is Carnita and steak tacos, the steak had granny smith apple topping...oh heaven sang ! (loved the carnita).
Note...we said to the waitress "we are coming back"... but this family owned business is leaving utah , so you need to go there BEFORE the end of april. They are placing themselves in a perfect location in California's Nampa valley...you'll understand why. They began this restaurant because their mother had to start eating healthy due to health problems...not sure of any details.
Sweet visit with my niece Diane in Lindon, she lives in a care center and loves to sit in the sun. We brought her valentines and diet coke, because she is loved by our family alot.
vintage matters...

officially retired
Here's my man...standing at the door he walked in and out of for 24 years, officially over.
Officially over means he's had the big cake, the "roast" by his long time buddies, his # retired and name on a tie, phone turned in, thoughts written in a journal book, hand shakes and thank you's for your long service by the big guys that run the place. (he's enjoying not having a phone...now that's a little scary!)
Carl worked every holiday and weekend for those years PLUS the 17 years at ZCMI (same type schedule) in Ogden. I look back and think how did we do it? Well, it wasn't always easy and probably hardest on our children...as they had to deal with their mother... alot!
He especially enjoyed his earlier days at the store...times were good, the guys would go out to "all you can eat" restaurants, or went for "sinkers" at Teddy bears, ABC mandarin in Roy he got them all hooked on his ABC house special pan fried noodles,he could eat the huge plate full...but now he takes a doggie bag, says he's just not the man he use to be!
Carl always came home happy and cheerful and that couldn't always be that easy being on your feet running all day, serving the customers that he did so well. I admire him for that. This last year wore on him needing a second back surgery.
He has his good memories now...he sleeps in, does what he wants, and is enjoying no stress... holidays will surely be different at our home.
congratulations Carl!

Some stories end with happily ever after
Once upon a time 2013 season theme, a shop filled with things loved from the past and ready to match up with owners to be loved in a new home.
Now it's perfect timing to come to the end of this brick and mortar shop chapter with the other chapters written within the pages of our 7 year blog.
Some stories end with Happily ever after...I'll think about it tomorrow... to all a good night and so forth.
Because I am only seeking balance in my life... Just a bed of roses will become a shopette, smaller, quicker and better.
Our first event together with joni (including Bonnie Tibbitts) is: vintage whites market March 8th Saturday UTAH STATE FAIRGROUNDS. You want to mark this one on your calendar, it is only ONCE a year.
join it on fb or their blog.
This one will end with "this is not the end".

empty windows dec. 31 2013
Pardon my tears for a little bit...when I pulled away from the blank empty dark windows of the shop today...It was such a shock I just needed to cry all the way home...just might feel really good to cry all night.
Besides all of the good..I thought of the bad too, or the parts I really disliked about running the shop, it helped ease the pain...like sharing a bathroom with the barber and he never taking a turn to clean, or tons of leaves that fall non stop, or wonder what would happen if I got sick, or a snow storm to drive in, or getting robbed (which never happened), paying all the bills on time, what to wear, driving 30 mins each way to work...etc.etc. etc.
My husband was laughing at customers Cathy and Charlene today...they boldly stated to him that we had ruined their life by closing! He has told me all night how I ruined someones life! They were customers/became friends in my very first store in the early 1990's. Aren't they precious, I just love and adore them. I love that vintage really does matter to them, always has and always will...and that it does to so many of you.
Mostly... it was really good tender loving & thankful thoughts, friends I've made, things that were learned. My husband is more like "we sure did move alot of stuff through that place" type of feelings. Although it is impossible to make everyone happy I understand that's just how business works.
And I'm so sorry for those situations that just didn't go right.
But right now I need to go back to my crying.
Probably just exhausted... and it will pass.
Our garage is so stuffed...the truck fits by less than an inch I was told! Oh dear...I may be busier than I want to be! But for now...I will savour getting the choice to just "do what I want." Really, that's what retired people do??? I have so much to learn about this!
Jan 1 2014... I will be ready to start the new year with my new word...BALANCE.

Christmas Day balancing
What grandma and grandpa doesn't love handprint ornaments from 2 and 5 yr old grands?
and family photo's to pass by during the day to make us smile?
Happy children
My presents this year all remind me of my new " live by" word this year "BALANCE"
Being shopkeeper these 7 years have thrown me off balance, although I really tried to balance it was like a new born baby! It's kind of like that feeling you get at Christmas time when you want to do something other than prepare for Christmas but you can't because you feel this nagging at your mind you need to be doing more, and there is always a new holiday lurking. That's shopkeeping...24/7 whether the shop is open/closed. Not really complaining, just glad to close this chapter, to start a new.
From Joni...would you expect anything less from her, she is witty and knows how to
present a gift. We are all going to miss Joni's talent...because "whenever" we wanted we could pop into the shop and enjoy her works of art. We will REALLY REALLY miss this.
Treats baked from the grandgirls, now lets see, did I even share them with grandpa?
My youngest son gave us all caps from Copper creek...only mine's in PINK!
Does this mean I am destined to go fishing??? (starting my excuse list).
Fish fry today...from generous brother in law next door who loves to ice fish.
BALANCE...in life from the comforts of home...really looking forward to enjoying HOME.
Spirituality...reading, studying, learning, being more of service.
Antique plant stand we purchased at a recent estate sale, we gave each other for Christmas.
Aren't the turned decorative legs so pretty. Carl was quick to grab this, so glad he did.
Pearl Yeh's natural face and body scrub...looking forward to my more natural lifestyle.
Lots more to learn. do. and share.
shopping...at my favorite grocery store, can't wait!
My daughters friend in Colorado has an alpaca farm...he is very artistic...she presented me with this absolutely stunning scarf from alpaca, every inch is a work of art, I feel like hanging it on the wall or something it's so fabulous. www.alpacainspirations.com www.chimeraranch.com
Best of all...my dad made it another Christmas.
He was passing out handmade rock jewerly to everyone who came for Christmas dinner.
He will be a part of my Balancing act...he wants to be on the go!
I think he will be 88 in several weeks. Fingers crossed he behaves himself.
I hope you too are enjoying your Christmas gifts from Santa and those who love you. We went to each of our childrens homes to see what santa had brought. So sorry my camera went dead at our daughters.
TEACHER TEACHER Kennedi...can I write on the chalkboard?
and family photo's to pass by during the day to make us smile?
Happy children
