Glitter Bling Sparkle Roses Crowns ...

Thats what's dancing through my head right now, wish I could settle it down (no I don't)but it won't stop. Now the shop needs its make-over to make room for the exciting inventory that will start arriving each week until Christmas (was that a bad word in the heat of June???)
Just arrived home from Market and the Xocai the dark healthy chocolate convention in Reno Nevada. Year 3 for Xocai and the new omega chocolates are scrumptuous. It's growing by leaps and bounds as it is an awesome network marketing company. People from all over the world.
We had the best evening being entertained by my friends step son Jason Huellett. He is the best there is in impersonations entertainment. I could take a whole page describing how talented he is, and its the best talent in the world when you can make people laugh outloud for an hour. He ended his show with a Jim Carrey impersonation that was to bust a rib laughing about. You must find a way to see him, I will see if he has some kind of website and post it. He will be very famous, he is almost there for sure!
New Vicoria bliss magazine just arrived as always... stunning. Somerset Life & somerset summer blog books are on their way, I am like you...cant wait until they come and remember they will hit the shop before they hit your homes and markets. Come Tuesday there will be LOTS OF JEWELRY OLD AND NEW PIECES, along with piles of vintage linens and vintage plates, come see. Reminder...Tuesday is 20% off vintage dishes, Wednesday 20% off linens, Thursday Suprise Friday 20% off anything Pink and Saturday 20% off any jewelry, old and new!!! whoa, thats just to cool!
I hope having the shop closed this week was not too inconvenient for anyone, have a nice warm week-end.

Day 2 at market...Now I am broke and loving it, lol!

Day two of market was so fascinating...our feet are killing us and we are in bed early as we walked the 14 floors and more, plus went to a mall to find Shellie a formal dress, which we didnt find, thats because shes too skinny! Good grief this girl doesnt eat junk food!
Its nice to see colors are still in nice reds, blacks, chocolate browns, pink and aqua still going strong and crackly finishes are strong. Tons and tons of bling, on everything you can think of.
I will be bringing lots of bling back, tons of fun jewelry. one think I am dissapointed in is there isnt a big wow for the holidays...maybe because the market is soft...dont know really why.
But we have ordered like crazy, we may have to get us part time jobs to pay for it (of course just kidding!)
Must get some rest for round 3...coming up soon.

MARKET FIRST DAY...

MARKET...all I can say is that both feet have blisters, totally mentally overstimulated, running out of money and dropping into bed at 6:00 p.m. (arent' we fun!?)

To Market To Market...shop will be closed this week

Good news and bad news...
Good news: I am off to Market to buy all things wonderful for the upcoming holiday seasons this week, plus meeting some of my Make Mine Pink friends for the first time ever, Lori and Karen.
Bad news: I must close the shop this week...I will be there Tuesday 11:00-2:00 p.m. is all SO I suggest if you need something come down early.
More good news: because of being closed this week I am pretty sure I will be EXTENDING the 20% off sales this month into ALL OF JULY! It really has been a great sale and I have bought LOTS AND LOTS MORE JEWELRY AND LINENS from estates ...so in order for the shop to have room for the HOLIDAYS it must keep moving out the door.
Thanks for your support with this sale, I know you have found some wonderful pieces of jewelry to wear and to do neat altered art with.
I will report about the show by the end of the week, IF NOT SOONER!
Hope your enjoying the 90 degree weather, isnt it nice?

camera batteries not charged...no show & tell

It sometimes happens that when you have a week-end for some great kodak moments I pull out my camera (it goes everywhere I go) and the batteries have silently died. Too bad these cameras aren't set up with the noises our cell phones had.
We had the neatest time up to the cabin, where its beautifully green, quiet (well, until we got there) and cool for Fathers Day. We picked up our 4 most cutest grandchildren and spent the night and day. You know how young kids love to eat eat & eat some more, so WE did! At bedtime we lay in the dark looking out at the tall quakies blowing in the wind and someone always sees WITCHES out there! Oh No! Then the story telling begins and each gets a turn, then we giggle ALOT. Pretty soon we are OUT.
Our son Tim came up with his 2 children and so we ate great food and just hung out with dad as it was Fathers day. It seemed more like Mothers day as Dad had to wait on me alot as I am not feeling my best right now. Ouch! Tim saved the day...he brought a camera so I went nuts putting each child by the wooden moose snapping pictures, it was kind of teary for me to get out the scrapbook from 10 years ago there at the cabin and to see the changes in these children.
Hope all of you had a lovely Fathers day.

STAY-CATION...stay around home vacation?

Have you heard of the new way to combat the rising gas prices this summer? It's called a Stay- cation where you vacation places in your own state or travel places around home. Yesterday I had the cutest and happiest couple come in who had visited the Teas 'n You a tiny tea house just around the corner from Just a bed of Roses shop. They were just thrilled by their experience and chose to stay in Utah instead of traveling to another state to do the same thing only with a 2,000.00 or more price tag. In fact they loved it so much they are coming back in just two days! I say that's quite impressive! http://www.teasnyou.com/ check it out. They also loved Us too, you never want to miss an antique shop on your vacation!
If your staying right at home could you decorate your porch like this one! Oh its to die for...could'nt you just sit there and enjoy a nice meal , soak in the warm air and talk forever. Or until the mosquitos bite! I want to give credit to the owner of this porch (and I still need to ask permission to show it here). This is the Woods Home in Syracuse who own the Victorian Wedding place. They say their porch is always a piece of art each season...I look forward to enjoying each season as a drive by.
If anyone has a wonderful porch and would like me to put it on the blog just come in and let me know, I will be right there with my camera.

SHOW and tell...For all you CITY GALS!

We were having a relaxing Sunday sitting on the chippy white wicker couch eating our root beer floats when Carl spotted a Mother Robin in the fuscia that climbs the porch post. Being the curious person (little boy inside) he is and married to me...we had to find out if there are eggs or baby birds inside this nest...

Nice mud and twig bird nest, you gotta give these mother birds alot of credit

These are growing profusly around the yard now...they are GRANDMOTHERS FLOWER BUSHES and are my favorite, they bloom about 3-4 times during the summer and make a neat bush. They spread, so if you would love a start, let me know I will dig one up for you. This is a must have for the old fashioned grandmothers garden.

I found this in a junk yard...well a salvage yard...love it on my front porch!

Can you beleive these ferns...its June 1st and they are huge and spreading like crazy, I havent even gotten the perennials planted yet. Ferns love shade too.

Modern lilac bushes growing around an old farm wagon in the backyard.
Old Barn ladder hanging on wall of back porch, I usually take an old watering can and an old box to plant flowers in and hand them off this ladder in the spring/summer.
Wondering what to do with your excess farm plows etc...I just hang them from the brick walls outside...I just hate a BARE WALL ANYWHERE!

I did this 13 years ago...took 2 old old windows and hung on the back porch, where the glass is broken I hung an old old birdhouse.

Last year the birds built their nest in this one...it was so cute to watch every day, I just dont have the heart to get rid of it, and they dont come back and nest twice.
Okay...so city girls, this IS the country, just throw in some fresh dairy air a few flies and wasps and taaaa dah...COUNTRY LIVING!
This post was for YOU ELAINE PACKER!

County Wide YARD SALE I will be there June 7th with the BARGAINS

Save your dollars...I will be selling at this county wide yard sale June 7th at the Weber county fair grounds (if its rainy they put us in the building).
I will have tables loaded with ONE DOLLAR ITEMS or less. I will load you up with good bargains bargains bargains! The picture shows all the information, why dont you even come and sell? They have tables you can rent, sooo easy. What I love about community sales is that your not spending all your money on gas by running around.
The picture of the house...I NEED SHUDDERS like these on my home...does anyone know where to get them here in northern utah? Are they cedar? Do I need to contact a contractor? I know there are vinyl ones I can order, but would rather have the wooden and slanted sided ones. My email: justabedofroses@hotmail.com
P.S. We are keeping a close eye on Dad...we are seeing how the anti-biotic works on his finger I guess and he is home. Thanks for your well wishes it is so much appreciated.

Dad's Emergency

From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU for your loving thoughts and prayers on my dads behalf. He still needs them as he is not well. Unfortunatly he DID NOT get the right medical care yesterday, all they did was numb his finger and lift up some skin and then said to try some anti-biotic and was to return immediatly if anything changed. This just made for a very bad day for all of us, my dad said he's never felt so old.
I just guarantee today he is going to end up back in the hospital with surgery and will have a lengthy time hooked up to anti-biotic iv.
A few lessons learned here...dont get an emergency on a Holiday as your care could be compromised...seriously!
Lesson two...if you are a diabetic and see ANY sign of an infection get anti-biotic medical help immediatly. And NEVER dig on yourself...NEVER EVER. Even if its a sliver, which my dad had.
He just didnt know and an 80 year old just does what he has always done...fix it yourself!
Again, thanks for prayers on our behalf and please know we still need them.
The shop (and I ) will be open today, I have 2 sisters and a brother that will be attending to my father and mother today, I appreciate them so much.

ESTATE NEEDLEPOINT for Show and Tell MONDAY

This is an old needlepoint I purchased this past week at an estate I am buying from, I fell in love with this framed piece and it was the deceased persons grandmother who had it, I will assume she made it also. I love old fruit pictures any way that I can find them. Fruit I am sure was not in abundance in the "olden days".
I hope your Memorial Day week-end has been nice. Here in Utah it is rainy so I have stayed inside and compiled many many boxes for the yard sale June 7th.
As I was going through my kitchen piles my sister called and said my 80 year old father was headed to salt lake for emergency surgery on his finger, apparently he had wood chips in it and had thought he had dug it all out. (he's always a do it yourselfer!) He got really really sick during the night and I am so afraid he is full of infection or blood poisoning. His body is in a weak condition as he is diabetic and cant go under surgery easily because of his heart and low blood pressure. So I will be understating that I am very scared right now and I need your prayers on his and my families behalf right now. I must go now to the hospital and will check in if possible this evening.

Estate soaps

I found these hiding out in my husbands own GENERAL STORE this morning. We came across a whole case of these wonderful old sweetheart soaps in a dingy old old basement, arent they cute and 1 cent...I need to research when soap would have been that cheap, dont I?
Tonight will be the second buying trip at an estate where I bought the lovely dishes (now dont follow me there!) My husband has the strictest orders to video tape AMERICAN IDOL as my TWO DAVIDS are doing the finale for the winning title of American Idol. I love them both so it will not matter who wins.
I promised pictures of all the recent finds but the Barber was leaving on a trip to Switzerland today with his family and he was like a little kid waiting for Christmas morning and distracted me all day long. Maybe today...hmmmm wonder what I will come across tonight for the shop?

SUMMER HOURS for Just A Bed of Roses

Starting now the shop will be closed thru the SUMMER on MONDAYS. Tuesday thru Friday shop hours: 11:00 -5:30 (sometimes between 5:00-6:00) and Saturdays 11:00-11:30 until 4:30-5:00
You are welcome to call and tell me you are coming and need me to stay for you, no problem unless I need to be to an appt. which does happen.
Here is a picture of the costume jewelry that arrived at shop Monday!

SHOP WILL BE CLOSED ON SATURDAY AND MONDAY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND really need to get ready for the upcoming YARD SALE on JUNE 7 at the Weber County Fair Grounds, hope you can come, most items I will be selling will sell for 1.00-3.00 dollars, seriously! I will do a separate post on this next week. FRANCISCOS restaurant will also be closed sat thru monday.

Am I the only one who LOCKS THEIR KEYS in their TRUCKS?

So this is Shellie Monday morning...my delima...I stopped off at the post office in Farmington and got distracted with a cell phone call and yes, I locked my keys inside. Its really a rare occasion for me to do that, but it did happen. I called Shellie as she was on her way to the shop to pick up a present, I claimed there is no way I could crawl through the back of truck as it was loaded with 'NEW FINDS" for the shop. I opted to call 911 since the police station is a block away.
Shellie showed up before the police officer...she just easily slid her skinny body right through the goods and through the tiny window and rescued the keys! When the police woman showed up she said "well, it looks like you found a much funner way to rescue your keys!"
Picture is showing her going through the little window...good grief! Thank You Shellie!

Check out the vintage Rhinestones on the bottom of this picture...oooh la la!

Shabby white vintage jewelry, buttons & ruffly FENTON candy dishes!

Marble topped newly painted colonial red vintage iron stand and florals!

The birds were singing so pretty this morning while I was taking this picture!

Oh...and THIS is new, I'll be bringing it to work also...my husband thinks there is a sign

somewhere on this car of mine that says "hit me". Ouch!

While being away from the shop I was able to meet up with 2 of my favorite professionals... One is Danielle East from Salon Tantrum she designs and colors my hair to my personality which is grayed, a little whitened and Blackened. From the Best book : Human Art, written by Brooke whom I finally had the pleasure of meeting. I have wanted to meet her for years and there she was doing hair right next to me, what a treat, oh that made my day.

Then I met with Lu Anne Shuey who has to be the strongest and best massage therapist out there. This girl does wonders and I love to go get my muscles relaxed by her. I could not do the job I have at my age without her!

So now back to work...there will be parking on Main street, in front of the courthouse and always in the back school parking lot. Hope its not to inconvenient for you. They will be finishing up our lamp posts today. Next week Main street gets theirs, we're going to look so historical!
