Healthy food idea which I LOVE

from a new customer HEATHER!

QUINOA:

Heather is a new customer and awesome, she is into Organic foods and taught me some new things. She so kindly gave me a jar of Quinoa to try. I took 1/2 cup to 1 cup water, bring to boil and then simmer with lid 15 mins. for breakfast ... Added honey, craisins, walnuts and coconut milk and was not hungry forever!

You can also make into salads and main dishes.

Google Quinoa:

It is a complete protein meaning it has 9 essential amino acids. It was considered the gold of the incas, and native to south america.

It's a relative to the leafy green vegetable like spinach.

fluffy, creamy, slightly crunchy (love that part) and somewhat nutty. Easy to fix.

It's especially good if you have migraines/high blood pressure as it relaxes the blood vessels.

I don't have either but I know some of you suffer with migraines.

We bought 25 lbs.

You can buy a smaller version at costco.

SO... TREAT YOUR HEART GOOD!

It's been 5 years now since I opened the doors to Just a bed of roses in the Historic sycamore district in Farmington. I remember peeking in the window right after Christmas, the building was for rent and I thought hmmmm, yes adorable, but too small. I knew how to stack merchandise, knew it could work, but NEVER dreamed it would fit the current merchandise to this extent.(many thanks to Joni's stacking expertise and years of decorating experience).

          Fun isnt it!

   Now, 2012 we have changed our days from 6 down to 3. Not because the shop was hurting, because I really did enjoy busy Mondays and being there for everyone needs during the week.

We now feel it allows us quality time to create one of a kinds, collect vintage and unique pieces and have time for much needed travel, taking care of ourselves and family obligations.

   Shop keeping is NOT a hobby by any means. There is a big awesome responsiblity to it. We are here to make a living,and each day/week is crucial to us being here the next. We have weathered some storms, and feel stronger than ever.

   There are some ethics we go by at the shop in order that we may keep our doors open.

   We appreciate your business and LOVE when you come often,bring a friend/relative and your out of state acquaintances. Thank you so much.

   We do appreciate NO photo's inside, including cell phone photo's.

   We also love that we can and want to inspire you, but we also would like you to respect that we create things to sell and not to be copied. This assures that we can meet our financial obligations.

   Our prices are affordable and reasonable. We are a unique vintage inspired gift/decor/holiday shop not a consignment or antique shop.

   It's a very common thing for someone to come in and exclaim "where does all this stuff come from?" There are many times I will tell you where/how and why this special item is in the shop, and I do it happily and generously. I too love how some of the vintage comes about. Some have a charming story others do not.

As a shop owner we ask that you respect our right of privacy as to where some of the merchandise is acquired.

We love the magic of finding, creating,displaying our products. It's all part of shopping the brick and mortar experience that you don't get online. We are comitted to keep brick and Mortar shops alive and exciting.

Now I love Kale, boil it for about 3 mins.

I am done as of 3 weeks ago.

Have already been through the 3 day headache.

After this post I promise not to talk about New York, but I

could not show and tell you about this place and leave out the ever present trash piles

stacked ever so neatly

I have been sheltered here in Utah.

No one told me that as I would walk the amazing streets of

New York there would be half the wide sidewalks lined and piled up in front of each business.

Where were the garbage cans I asked?

How can this be...really?

You mean there are at least 25,000 restaurants down here and this is how they handle the trash?

this is America, we have high trash standards.

Luckily the weather was chilly

would if it was July...stinky?

I was told that this created jobs.

okay.

But what about bugs/rodents?

What if it snows and it freezes together?

Appreciation

for where I live

I mean I can get in my own car and go anywhere I want... easily.

Cabs...I have never been so scared in my life.

A cab ride in New York...your life in their hands,

they don't always want to take you where you want to be

and

they'll just drop you off.

You heard it right

JUST DROP YOU OFF

and ask you pay them

they pretend they don't know your language

and even act like they know where they are going.

I heard 13 ups drivers supply the empire state building

each day. I actually felt bad for the ups drivers they

work twice as hard as ours.

It's not easy living in New York.

Your groceries need to be delivered and you WALK to a

market almost daily.

No walmarts (not a bad idea, yeah New York)

and no gas stations on every corner

rare to see a gas station.

Subway transportation...an experience of a lifetime.

Not as scary as imagined

and some people have their jobs entertaining you there.

We all must eat.

Here are the two twin trade towers that are being rebuilt

and will be finished in 2 years.

They are the ones that have the antenna's sticking on top,

which are cranes.

They light up at night and will be taller than the former.

We were staying only 3 blocks from them.

That placed us close to Fire Station 1

the first responders to 911

again a compact city

a little one way street to pull those big trucks onto.

New York has a high noise level

always a siren.

I'll end with Time Square, now that's

wildly overstimulating but good

We attended Billy Elliott on Broadway which was

Jersey boys, LOVED THE MUSIC...Frankie Valli-

We will remain closed today due to the extreme weather conditions and destruction from yesterdays wind to Davis county. We know the town needs to begin its clean up and power restorations.

For those reading from out of state or in other utah counties...we have had 88 to 102 mph winds for a sustained amount of time. Many MANY 100 yr. old pines and trees uprooted, snapped and destroyed homes, cars, power lines. We were on the NBC national news and declared a state of emergency. Travel difficult, communter trains stranded, semi's overturned, power outages and schools closed and it's COLD.

Good luck to our good friends who suffered so much damage to their properties and try to stay warm as we know your without heat. Hugs to all of you.

As far as I know the shop is suprisingly intact.
It's a very old old building with thin windows.

Our home in Weber county did fine, was very happy when the winds stopped at 10:30 last night.

If you have girls, then you must have heard of

AMERICAN GIRL DOLLS

a must to have luncheon in New York.

The room is filled with chatty women, mothers

grandmothers, friends, girls and their dolls.

Sipping frozen hot chocolate before lunch arrived.

Men Waiters wore hot pink aprons...oh -PULEEESE!

Healthy appetizers followed by main course, cupcakes etc.

Then a shopping spree on all 3 floors of dolls

and their cutest accessories

thank goodness for UPS

as the girls have birthdays coming up.

Being silly with carrot appetizer!

You can always create your own tea party

or luncheon if you can't make it to

American girl- new york

There were shopping markets at

Madison square gardens, Grand Central station.

Girls daddy treated them to bunny hats/mittens.

Farmers markets were busy the day before Thanksgiving

selling pies, flowers, all kinds of meats as there

are so many cultures in New York.

Quite fascinating

A convention center had a dog/cat show

we ran through the isles petting petting petting.

They say our dogs are much like their owners.

This owner/dog were quite content!

Grandchildren loved poking their heads in this dome

where you could see LIVE ROACHES living inside.

Ripeys Believe it or not was entertaining and somewhat

gruesome, perfect for boys.

You could put your face in a jar

kind of Halloweenish.

cool place though... saw really strange things.

We also rode the huge ferris wheel inside the biggest

Toys are Us store.

Never did eat a famous new york hot dog.

But we had plenty of pizza.

A luxurious India food restaurant, thought we were

kings and queens the way we were waited on.

a german restaurant close by...to die for.

Macys day parade attracts approx. 3,000 people

It's a once in a lifetime must see and do.

All we could see were the balloons

as the sidewalks are stacked about 25-50 people deep.

Macys parade has only been cancelled one time in 1944

it was the war and rubber was not available.

They use to let the balloons go up into the air

after the parades way back in the day.

we rode in a beautiful white carriage with a white horse

our guide told us alot of details about famous events/movie spots here.

New Yorker NEED this place...

Shellies husband treated us to charming

Horse carriage rides awaiting us to be taken

on tour of the famous

I had no idea how large it was.

And it was brrrrr cold with no rain

A beautiful delicious Thanksgiving dinner

awaited our family, then Carl was taxied

off as he had Black Friday to be home for.

And then the camera battery died and

guess what I brought the wrong charger

with none to be found in New york.

Nations Tree lighting in New York tonight

Times have changed

Traditions go on...thankfully

Last week as I stood next to the Nations Christmas tree hidde

behind big banners/scaffolding as it was being

adorned in lighting and ornaments by many workers,

I thought back to this photo.

Tonight the tree lighting celebration begins on tv.

We will celebrate Tree Decorating at the shop by a sale:

One main item on my list of things to do in New York

was see the Plaza at NBC studios

here it is, empty.

okay, just sayin' it's all smaller in real life,

The tents were lined up all over the place

for 2 days/nights in the POURING RAIN.

It rains cats and dogs.

Rain is a funny thing in New York.

You don't stop what your doing at all

just pull out the umbrella

and carry on and I mean WALK.

Umbrella's at different levels everywhere bobbing.

Amazes me how that many people can go down a sidewalk

all with an umbrella without injury.

Across from the plaza you see this bakery everyday

on the today show:

Shellies husband plopped the children on the stools at the counter with big windows that over looks the plaza

I kept telling them over and over

how special and famous this place was.

Surely they thought grandma was silly.

I think they were more interested in the

beautiful and delicious pastries set before them!

Tonight the famous Rockettes should perform

When they first came on stage to perform their

Christmas Spectacular

I cried.

Those legs

They had opened up the curtain partly and showed the

row of beautiful dancing legs

and I thought am I really seeing this live!

Rockette show is now more modern, appeals to the

new generation (and it's all okay)

Rockettes become Reindeer, toy soldiers, Santa's etc.

Show ended with one of the most spectacular live

nativities I have ever seen

amount of money. My husbands mother worked 2 years

after arriving from Holland to pay hers off.

If a person were sick on arrival they were shipped back.

We need to be grateful and appreciative

dont we.

This was the grand room which they were

lined and hearded in for their papers like cattle.

and they won't even care (or notice).

Their mama is happy to toss plastic right into the trash!

I have too many unpleasant memories

of Thanksgiving dishes since I come from a large

family and we always went to grandma's house.

An event where the legs and feet

were just as clever as the hats.

Besides the home being dressed head to toe!

It was like a haunted leafy forest as we

excited-ly walked down the foggy lane.

Kim Holmes of Salt Lake City

a fun- funnest customer

invited Joni and I to her yearly

Witches Tea party.

Little did we know...what to expect.

As we sipped from our tea cups

and dined on the most amusing treats

we realized our friend Kim was a sweet

version of Mary Englebreit.

Because...

this is a "big deal" in her life... this

Witches Tea Party...

she paints her entry walls Pumpkin.

OH so many vignettes to

entertain her many witch friends.

Through out her home there were

sweetly decorated dining areas

where witches could sit

and do what they do best...

CACKLE or CACKLING

you know.

I must say...

We almost wanted to grab a shopping basket

her collections so cute.

Well, now we can say we have partaken

in the Halloween festivities this season

having been to our first

Witches event.

For real.

Halloween for us is... work work work.

(okay, we do have lots of fun)
